Beyond the arena at Kisama, the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland programmes a set of curated day and multi-day experiences during the ten days of the Hornbill Festival — village tours, heritage walks, and trekking-and-camping modules that let you go deeper than the main stage. The Niathu Escapade is one of the official adventure experiences programmed alongside the Hornbill Festival by the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland. It is designed for travellers who want to pair the arena at Kisama with something more physical — a proper walk into the hills that ring Kohima, a night under canvas and a taste of the games Naga villages have played for generations.

The Tuophema Experience

The Tuophema Experience is an officially programmed day tour inside the Hornbill Festival, designed and run by the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland in partnership with Tuophema Tourist Village — one of the earliest community-tourism initiatives in Nagaland, opened in 2002 by the villagers of Tuophema themselves.

Kohima Heritage Walk

The Kohima Heritage Walk is an officially programmed Hornbill Festival experience, run by a local heritage-tourism operator in partnership with the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland. It is a four-hour guided walk through the sites of the Battle of Kohima — one of the most decisive engagements of the Second World War in Asia, fought here between April and June 1944, and voted Britain's Greatest Battle in a 2013 National Army Museum poll.

The Mezoma Sundown Experience

The Mezoma Sundown Experience is an officially programmed afternoon module inside the Hornbill Festival, run by the Department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland with the community of Mezoma village. It is designed to solve a specific problem in the festival week — what to do with the second half of the day, when the Kisama arena programme winds down around 3.30 p.m. but the Night Carnival in Kohima does not begin until dusk.
