Village Walks

Kigwema Village Walk

The Angami village next door to Kisama, walked with local hosts.

What it is

The Kigwema Village Walk was launched at 9:00 AM on 1 December 2025 — the festival's opening day — and ran again at 9:00 AM on 5 December 2025.

Why it matters

Kigwema is one of the two Angami villages whose land the Kisama festival ground sits on (Ki-sa-ma is drawn from Kigwema, Phesama and Kisama). Walking it is the shortest possible step from the festival's staged version of village life to the real one.

Where it takes place

Kigwema village, immediately adjacent to Kisama Heritage Village, about 12 km from Kohima.

Getting there: see how to reach Kisama and Kohima, and the Kisama Heritage Village venue guide.

Who should attend

Anyone attending the festival who wants context before entering the arena. It is the easiest village walk to combine with a Kisama day.

Before you travel, check the ILP & PAP permit requirements and budget guidance.
